I Never Said our "Life and Times" was Always Exciting

Hello faithful blog readers. I know the material can get kinda dry sometimes but it's really difficult to post new and exciting things EVERY week folks! But I love to look at pics when I look at other people's blogs so that's why I post so many. Anyway we happen to be showing our friends around this nearby city yesterday and this is a GINORMOUS mosque here.



We took them to a market in this city. The only thing I bought was the green bracelet on my arm, (hey, I realize it didn't match but I JUST got it)

I love all the colorful pottery!

This is at a delicious thai food place. This was the last night the 5 of us ate together before a new family arrived to join us.

Cody LOVES birds. One of the things we did this weekend with our summer group was go on a bird watching trip into a lagoon about 2 hours north of our city. We saw some flamingos and some other nice species that I can't remember the name of but they were pretty too.

Luckiest Day of the Century

So, how did you celebrate the luckiest day of the century, 07/07/07? You know there won't be another triple 7 day EVER again, well at least not until next century, as Cody so sweetly pointed out. We celebrated by going to an amazing beach just north of town (we were actually going there anyway, it just happened to fall on that day :) North Africans like to congregate together at the same small stretch of beach, so it was easy to find a place to ourselves 50 yards down the beach away from everyone else. We stayed pretty isolated except for the few times when people thought that SURELY we would want some company. The waves were nice and weather was perfect.

This was also a big day b/c I picked up my first FICTION novel in as long as I can remember. I usually only read non-fiction books for information or to grow personally but I never just pleasure read (hence, the reason I usually don't enjoy it). But Cody finally convinced me to start Ender's Game. It's pretty good so far, anyone read it?

Here we are on good ol Independence Day. We went to a BBQ with some other Americans and just hung out. We lost the volleyball over the fence shortly after the photo was taken :(

I spent the night at a friend's house this week and her Aunt did some awful henna on me. From far away it looks okay but if you look closely it has some pretty creepy stuff. The palm is even worse. The front has a snake on the pointer finger with its tongue sticking out and an eye on the right hand to ward off any evil stares people may give me. (Eyes here are thought to have magical powers)

Here are a few things to notice:
1) To hearts with "K's" in them standing for Karima (me) and Kody
2) Big huge eye with eyebrow, just in case anyone is jealous of my henna it will ward off any evil eye coming my way
3) Tiny little music notes, a heart with legs, and one really large heart with "KODY"
Luckily, the ugliest stuff is on the palm where it lasts FOREVER!!!! :)

Birthday Fun and Wedding Ring Drama

Monday was Cody's 26th birthday. We went to his favorite restaurant, a sushi place here in town, and then came back to our house for some chocolate soufflé and games.

Cody's new (used) bike he got for his birthday. I added a seat to the back so he could pump me around town. We went down to the beach today!

While I was at the wedding last week Cody went down south to an international music festival. Think Woodstock, only with Arabs and mystical tribal music. They stayed out all night and slept on a bus with a 30 nationals and no bathroom.

We went surfing on Tuesday and it was so much fun. I guess because I snowboard I caught on pretty quick and was able to stand up on the third try! Unfortunately this is also the time Cody lost his wedding ring. There is a before photo and he has it on and this is the after photo and it's gone. Well it had a good 3 1/2 year run.

"With THIS ring, I thee wed...again." We went to the market and bought this silver ring for about $5. We will buy another titanium ring when we go to Europe or America.
